The Middle East & North Africa
The Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region has amongst the world’s best conditions for growth. The growing population and the low penetration offers a vast number of business opportunities.
MENA presents about 6 per cent of world population (the same as EU), 2 per cent of world income and 4 per cent of world trade. The region accounts for a large share of world petroleum production, depends heavily on agriculture imports, and enjoys on average a reasonable standard of living. Within this general classification, sub-regions vary substantially in size, population and economic development. MENA could be divided into three sub-regions largely based on their geographical location and natural resources. The sub-regions are:
- Maghreb: Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia
- Mashreq: Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria
- Gulf countries: Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE
